Zelensky of Ukraine makes his first wartime phone call to Xi of China.

Volodymr Zelensky of Ukraine claims that he has had a "long and meaningful" phone call with Xi Jinping of China, their first interaction since the beginning of the war with Russia.

On Twitter, he stated that, in addition to the appointment of an ambassador to Beijing, he believed the call would "give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations."

"Always stood on the side of peace," China said in response to the call.

As of recently, Beijing has tried to show a nonpartisan position on the Russian intrusion.

Be that as it may, it has never denounced the intrusion and last month President Xi paid a two-day state visit to Russia.

He alluded to President Vladimir Putin as his "dear companion", proposed an unclear 12-point harmony plan and demanded that China remained on the right half of history. He did not, however, promise to supply Russia with weapons.

Within a few days of the visit, President Zelensky extended an invitation to the Chinese leader to come to Kyiv for talks, pointing out that they had communicated prior to the full-scale war but not since it began in February 2022.

China would "neither watch the fire from the other side, nor add fuel to the fire, let alone take advantage of the crisis to profit," President Xi was quoted as saying in a readout of the phone call on Wednesday, according to China's CCTV.
